Hydro Test your Paintball Tanks

Another year has gone by and your paintball gears are getting old - especially compressed air bottles. You can always buy a new one (So many sales towards year end) or you can send it for hydro testing; and for small fee your bottle can last another for another 3 - 5 years. You can save alot by doing this. But before that, why do we need to hydro testing our tanks?

Hydro testing is a very important process for your paintball air tanks and should be done every 3-5 years. Hydro testing is so important because it ensures that you’re paintball air tanks are structurally sound and safe to be filled. How the testing works is a little complicated, but here’s the process in a nutshell:
  • The paintball bottle is separated from it’s regulator.
  • Every inch of the bottle, inside and out is inspected for decay, rust, cracks, etc.
  • Typically, the bottle is then lowered into a vat of water/the hydro testing machine.
  • Water is pumped into the bottle, increasing the PSI.
  • If the amount of displaced water in cubic centimeters, exceeds the REE number (on the bottle’s DOT label), then the bottle fails the hydro test and is unfit for further use.

So now that seems like a good idea where do we go to do it here in Malaysia? I've recently stumbled again to this website http://hydrotestpaintball.blogspot.com and thought I could help highlight this. The blog is run by Aziddin "KakiMusha" Jamil and he seems to be able to handle the job properly. Give him a visit :)

Battle of January - MPOC vs MY-NPL

Referring to this post and this post, both parties have already waged 'wars' on each others. Both promoters are now aggressively attracting teams to their first event of 2011 with MPOC throwing free entries to WCA 2010 participated teams while Asia Cup & MY-NPL promised to deliver a better yet well organized international standard tournament for everyone! How that can even top up the recent World Cup Asia 2010, only time will tell.

With competition getting fierce on who has the most share of 'the pie', this could turn out to be good for the players. More choices and options to start their year. Let the fight begin.

In The News - First female paintball referees

SARAWAKIANS Angie Ng and Kamalia Kamarudin were recognised as trailblazers when they were selected to be officials at paintball’s World Cup Asia 2010 this Friday (26-28 Nov 2010).

Held annually in Kuala Lumpur, the event is one of three internationally-organised World Cup tournaments in the world of paintball. The other two are the World Cup – Orlando (USA) and World Cup – Paris (Europe).

World Cup Asia has attracted teams not only from the Asian region but from Europe and the Pacific as wel.

Ng and Kamalia will be among the first few women to referee paintball sports leagues. Both from Kuching, they will take Sarawak down in the annals of sports history for being the first female officials.

Proud officials: Kamalia (right) and Ng posing with the male marshalls selected for the World Cup Asia 2010 to be held in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

When dealing with the behaviour of players, which could range from abusive language to the obligatory pat on the back after a favourable call, Ng and Kamalia are no shrinking violets.

“Confrontation is part of being a referee,” they said.

“If the players cross a line they’re not supposed to, then they’ll receive a technical foul – like any player would.

“The biggest challenge will not only be officiating the games, but earning the respect of the players, coaches and fans.

“Rookies, so to speak, have to earn their respect, and that’s what we are going to have to do. We’re up to the challenge.”

For them, it’s just all part of the game.

Ng added: “Playing paintball requires so much mental focus that we don’t think a lot of the players realise a woman is on the field.

“They don’t pay attention to who’s making the calls. They’re only concentrating on whether they get the call right. And that’s how it should be. It should only be about working hard to do the job properly.”

Justin Rabackoff Paintball Clinic

Looks like its confirmed that we'll be having Justin Rabackoff Paintball Clinic right before the World Cup Asia. Justin has won many Pro events and is currently playing with Russian Legion (PSP), Tamapa Bay Damage (NPPL) and Frankfurt Syndicate (CPL).

Biography

Justin "J-Rab" Rabackoff
Birthdate: October 6, 1988
Hometown: Washington DC
Pro Experience: 4 years
Total Years Playing: 11 years

I got involved in my paintball because of my Dad, Steve Rabackoff – legendary, old school, original Avalanche paintball player and Coach. I was lucky enough to be around some of the great paintball players as I grew up, watching and learning from the best. In 1998, I played in my first event with a team called Ham & Cheese – the Great Western Series at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. In 2004, I started my first true Xball team - D.C Devastation. Coached by my dad. My brother, Brandon Rabackoff also played with me. We won our 1st event in 2005!

At the end of 2005, D.C Devastation broke up. I went on to try out for and made the team - Sacramento XSV. I played with XSV at a time when they were one of the best teams in the world. World Cup 2005 was my first tournament playing with them. We finished second place to dynasty. The following year I joined Team Infamous. That was a great time in my career.

In 2007, I did something most pro players would not do I went back down to Division 2 to play with Team Nasty. My dad was coaching and my brother was playing on the team. I got to take a year off from being a pro. I was able to play with my friends and my brother. Taking a step back to play with Nasty helped me work on my leadership ability.

At the end of 2007, I received a chance to tryout for the Russian Legion. I was one of ten players competing for three positions. I earned a spot on the team playing the snake side. I was off to a slow start in 2008. I was trying to learn the Russian Legion’s winning skills. I continued to work hard. My hard work paid off, I made the first team in the middle of the year. I was also playing in the NPPL 7-man series with D.C Arsenal Evolution, semi-pro 7-Man team. In the two years that I played with DC Arsenal, we won seven out of nine events.

Splat Magazine named me the “2009 Paintball Player of the Year.” I also made their “Ultimate 7-man team.” These are amazing awards that were only possible with the help and support of my many talented teammates.

In 2010, I joined Tampa Bay Damage for the NPPL 7-man series. I also joined Frankfurt Syndicate for the European Millennium series. I currently play with the Russian Legion for PSP Xball’s “Race to 7.”

My successful career and accomplishments are only possible because of the continued support and encouragement from the many people in my life: Jon Richardson, Rusty Glaze, Sergey Leontiev, Brian Fow, Kevin Rudulph, Tom Fore,G-no Benedicto, my Russian Legion coaches, Nicky Cuba, Alex Fraige, Ryan Greenspan and most importantly my dad.

The Energizer Night Strike Event

The Energizer Night Strike will be the first-of-its-kind among paintball tournaments in Malaysia, and possibly in Asia.

  • Unlike other night paintball games, the Energizer Night Strike features 7-minute ‘speedball’ rounds incorporating a ‘capture the flag’ scenario, played completely in the dark with only ultraviolet ...(UV) lighting and glow-in-the-dark paintballs to complement Energizer’s new Energy Beam image.
  • Players and spectators stand to be treated to a visual feast of neon colours, fast-paced action and adrenaline with the glow-in-the-dark pellets, uniforms and props.
  • Will be held throughout January next year, with games happening every weekend leading to the finals at the end of the month.
  • Registration is RM300 per person for teams of 10 with prizes of RM20,000, RM10,000 and RM5,000 for teams placed first, second and third respectively.
  • Participation is expected from all over Malaysia and the world.
  • Details of the Energizer Night Strike will be announced soon and can be found here: www.energizernightstrike.com

MPOC 2010 - After the Finale

The final leg of MPOC 2010 finally rolled down its curtains last weekend. MPSJ Stadium in Subang Jaya provided a great backdrop to a finale that everyone is waiting for. The field was in excellent condition even after heavy downfall the night before and in the morning of the first day. The track side provided alot of cool shades and dry ground for players area. The grandstand offered a unobstructed view of both fields and spectators gets to enjoy the weekend watching good paintball from a covered stands.

The new scoreboard was introduced first time in the final leg and it added a different dimension to the game. Especially Division 1 players where time is always a factor. It felt good to always know the current score, time left and time break in between. It helped alot on your strategy and gameplan. The scoreboard works beautifully on the first day. The distinct sound of game buzzer helps the game to start much efficietly. Somehow on Sunday morning, the scoreboards wasn't working and we had to resort back to manual scoring. But they got it back to work soon and everything was smooth sailing.

Another point of interest was that Thailand's team Infernal made their debut in this final leg of MPOC. They were expecting to give everybody a run for their money since they have been performing consistently in Malaysia for the past few years. Winners of ISSC 2010 and World Cup Asia 2008, surely that are the team to be expected to be in the finals. In their way, Macdev Ronin, X-Fox and Demonz Red were fighting for the overall Championship with only ONE point difference between them.

As expected, Infernal made it into the semis along with Ronin, X-Fox and Demonz. This promises a great matchup between Ronins vs Infernal and X-Fox vs Demonz. Demonz brushed aside the Foxes to reach the final while Ronins beat Infernal. In the finals, Demonz edged Ronins slightly to take home the win and the overall Championship. Heartbreak for Macdev Ronins, as the have been leading the MPOC rankings up till the end but only lost out the title only from a countback. Getting into four finals in a season was a huge achievement and they showed remarkably high consistency finishes.

I could never praise enough on the amount of upgrades that have been poured into MPOC. This year, they have invested heavily in the Sup'Air Arenas and new venues. Now with fill stations in each pit area and a spanky new LED Scoreboard for X-Ball type games, it can only get better towards World Cup Asia. Despite all of these, one thing that weren't consistent enough was of course the refereeing. I had to find out the hard way and we had some really poor refereeing made against us while other teams got off lightly. I also noticed that with there weren't enough referees to cover the action especially Division 1 games and sometimes players get pulled out very late or nothing happened at all. Spectators also saw that some calls can be made easily and straightforward had the referees were more alert to spot the hit.

In future events, I hope more referees will be placed in the semis and finals game of Division 1 and 2. It's already hard enough to play against any Divsion 1 team and when you have calls went the wrong way cause of zero alertness, that is just heartbreaking. PC Trauma was one of the victim and they subsequently shied away from this leg. Our friends from STK Australia, told us of how one Malaysian team with their notorious reputation made it all the way there. But they came anyway for some good time with us and they did! They enjoyed the atmosphere, field and the whole Malaysian hospitality. We'll be seeing them again this November - as the enemy!

A big shout out to team sponsors and friends: Macdev, PBFashion, Napshot, TAG Paintball, Sabah Paintball Association, PALS and not to forget Rock N' Rollas for pitting and coaching whenever they can, friends and family. We also took best team for East Malaysia Region; Sabah represent - Boleh bah kalau kau! And last but not least, Desmond Foo (residentevilchef) for those wonderful photos!

PALS releases 2011 Paintball Calendar

PALS has just released their 2011 paintball calendar and at a glance, a few new venues will be introduce. For MPOC's Melaka Cup, I assume it will be held in Melaka and also Selangor's Cup to be somewhere in Selangor. Sultan of Kedah's Cup would probably still be at Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar. Great venue with nice field.

A big surprise this year (actually for 2011) is the inclusion of Hainan (China) as the kick-off leg for the PALS series. Then followed by Thailand and the Philippines. And of course, the World Cup Asia in Langkawi! Tropical island with endless beauty. Looking forward to 2011 very much!

Well done PALS!
