AirAsia – The Official Airline for World Cup Asia 2011

Time to get your paintball markers loaded and get ready for combat as AirAsia is the Official Airline for The Paintball World Cup Asia 2011 (WCA) – the Final Leg of the Paintball Asia League Series (PALS) 2011 from 10 to 13 November 2011. The event will be held at the scenic island of Langkawi, Malaysia. For this year’s edition of the tournament, a total of 1,600 participants from 33 different countries including the USA, Russia, Sweden and Portugal. 160 teams will compete in four categories – Pro Amateur (Division 1); Amateur (Division 2); Novice (Division 3) and Rookie (Division 4).

Organized by PALS Events and AKR Events, the four-day tourney will be held at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Hall and is the first paintball tournament in the world to be held indoors complete with Astroturf and air-conditioning.

On top of that, AirAsia Berhad Group CEO, Tan Sri Dr Tony Fernandes will also be ‘bearing arms’ as a participant in the WCA. Look out for him and the rest of Team Kronos Numbers as they battle it out in Division 4.

We would like to help the sport develop and see it grow in the region. Although paintball is relatively new in the region, it is gaining popularity especially amongst the urban youth.” He added, “Paintball is not a sport for the faint hearted and one must not only physically prepared but also mentally equipped. Passion, grit and determination - that is what fuels us at AirAsia and that is definitely what ‘paintballers’ have especially when they face their opponents”.

The partnership between PALS and AirAsia stems from the vision of ‘Dare to dream’, a vision shared by both parties which will now consolidate the structure that has already been laid for paintball. We truly appreciate the initiative AirAsia has shown through their participation. With their support, the sport will be able to soar to new heights and realize many dreams”.

Apart from the tournament, visitors to the WCA can also look forward to the biggest paintball expo in Asia as well as a cultural and local food bazaar organized by the Langkawi Development Authority.

In conjunction with WCA and as the official airline of the tournament, AirAsia is offering special fares to Langkawi from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Singapore with all-in one way fare from RM109*, RM66* and SGD 59* respectively. Booking period is from 18 to 23 October 2011 and the travel period is from 24 October to 21 December 2011.
