Big events this weekend!

In conjunction with 'Hari Belia Negara 2011' happening this weekend, paintballers can look forward to two big events being held there - the Battlefield Putrajaya and ISSC 2011.

Battlefield Putrajaya is a scenario or recball game in a very large scale happening right here in Putrajaya, Malaysia. The Prime Minister of Malaysia and many VVIPs will be there. Basically there will be four armies (yellow, blue, green and red) battlling each other in 3 games. Each battle is two hours and only 125 mercenaries per army. This should promise alot of fun and excitement.

ISSC 2011 returns again with big prize money and of course with all the big teams from Malaysia and around South East Asia. Expect a 30-40 teams participating in this annual event.

PALS Bangkok is also happening this weekend. It's the first event for PALS 2011 series, since China event had to be postponed. Expect teams from Australia, Thailand, Iran, Malaysia and more to come for this one.

With three big events going on at the same time, I wish all the events the best. Hopefully they will each attract a number of teams.

China Cup 2011 Postponed

China Cup in Hainan Island scheduled on March 25th to 27th is to be postponed because of the 2011 Boao Forums will be held a week after. The Chinese government cited that nowhere on Hainan Island will any sport with a firearm be allowed (for safety reasons) from March 15th to April 25th because of the Boao Forums. Full explanation by Michael Whybrew, China Cup Tournament Director here and also on PALS.

Battle of January - MPOC vs MY-NPL

Referring to this post and this post, both parties have already waged 'wars' on each others. Both promoters are now aggressively attracting teams to their first event of 2011 with MPOC throwing free entries to WCA 2010 participated teams while Asia Cup & MY-NPL promised to deliver a better yet well organized international standard tournament for everyone! How that can even top up the recent World Cup Asia 2010, only time will tell.

With competition getting fierce on who has the most share of 'the pie', this could turn out to be good for the players. More choices and options to start their year. Let the fight begin.

PALS releases 2011 Paintball Calendar

PALS has just released their 2011 paintball calendar and at a glance, a few new venues will be introduce. For MPOC's Melaka Cup, I assume it will be held in Melaka and also Selangor's Cup to be somewhere in Selangor. Sultan of Kedah's Cup would probably still be at Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar. Great venue with nice field.

A big surprise this year (actually for 2011) is the inclusion of Hainan (China) as the kick-off leg for the PALS series. Then followed by Thailand and the Philippines. And of course, the World Cup Asia in Langkawi! Tropical island with endless beauty. Looking forward to 2011 very much!

Well done PALS!

PALS Paintball in China

PAINTBALL PENETRATES THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA

We are very proud to announce to all the official formation of PALS China which consists of Mr. Michael Tan and Mr. Michael Whybrew, and the establishment of the China Cup as the 1st leg of PALS 2011 in Hainan, China.

As of now (Aug 2010), the China Cup is set for the 24th - 27th March 2011.

We would like to commend PALS China for their achievement in getting the go-ahead from the strict authorities of China to carry out this historic event for the most populated country in the world.

China, with its population of 1.3 billion, is the largest untapped market in Asia, making up a good one-third of the Asian population. PALS China will be bringing paintball to a mind-boggling number of people, in a country famous for executing events on a grand and massive scale.

We sincerely do believe that this entry into China will bring about significant opportunities for both the global paintball industry and have significant impact for the recognition of paintball as a mainstream sport.

PALS, together with all her partners within the Asia Pacific region, and from Europe and US, will be doing their utmost to ensure the success of the event.

We would like to call upon all players and teams in and outside the region to do their part to support this momentous occasion.

Pending the release of official information, those who would like to obtain more info about the event can get in touch with us, and we will keep them updated with information as it is obtained.

Congratulations to the two Mikes of China, and major kudos from the rest of us.

PAUL WY LAM
FOUNDER, PALS

Note: Paintball in Asia is really taking off! Thanks to PALS. Now we have another reason to travel to China!

MPOC 2010 - Event 4 Results & Conclusions

Here are the results of the recent concluded MPOC 2010, at Padang Merbuk, Kuala Lumpur. Congratulations to all the winners.

Division 1
1st - X-Fox
2nd - Trauma
3rd - Demonz Red
4th - Warriors

Division 2
1st - Eastsiderzz
2nd - Ronin Nexus
3rd - Urban-X
4th - Red Sevens

Division 3
1st - Hammer Zero
2nd - Zoo
3rd - Pandamonium
4th - Rhymber-X

Division 4
1st - KSK Flash
2nd - Kejahatan 2
3rd - Prolintas Legion X
4th - Rock n Rolla

This has been one of the best MPOC in terms of organisation and venue. Two Sup'Air Arenas were brought in and it gave MPOC a touch of a major European tournament look. Those who are familiar with Millennium Series Paintball would have that feeling. Wet playing field and mud is what I've come to love. The mud wasn't that bad and the level playing field helps alot for aggressive teams.

The Arena
From the chat that I had with Simon Fournier of Sup'Air, the arena itself can be fully inflated in just a matter of five minutes! We got to witness this, when the Arena on field 2 has to be inflated back after the D3 games were stopped because of bad weather. After seeing how easy the to patch any tear on the arena PVC or even Bunkers, I couldn't help but wondering if MPOC would take it 'outside' like the European counterpart anytime soon. Find a nice tarmac with lots if walking traiffic near some crowded place, set up the Arena, lay down some carpet or turf. And bam! Instant tournament venue! Surely 2011 will be lots of surprises for paintballers.

Fairplay and Sportsmanship
I can't say much, but refereeing this time around is just adequate. It wasn't impressive but they're just okay. Last few legs were much better. I've never flared up in a paintball tournament for some time and last week, I just lost it. It's just wasn't paintball at all. I'm sadden for the fact that there are my friends and circumstances put us in opposite sides of the field. My team got penalized, we collected ourselves and got on with the remaining game. Then we played one of the best paintball when we held Trauma in our last preliminaries.

Of thunderstorm and rain
When it rained, it sums up the mood at our tent. Now the overall Champion for Division 1 has blown out wide, anybody can win. It's going to be a nail biting finish to the end. We shall bring our A game on the final event.

As usual, you can visit residentevilchef.com for event photos. Give it a few days for all the photos to be up.

Patrick Tan & Thailand Paintball Tournament 2010

Patrick Tan recently played and finished third in the Thailand Paintball Tournament 2010 held in Bangkok. Normally I don't blog about non-Malaysia paintball events, but since we have our local guys compete and won there, this definitely deserves some headline.

(VPB) Tell us briefly about yourself, paintball experience and Pro Paintball
(PT) Hi Caran, I own and manage Pro Paintball here in Malaysia and Thailand. I started playing paintball as a leisure activity and eventually got hooked with the intensity of the game. I started playing in division 3 in the MY-NPL series and eventually merged with the older generation Demonz team to form what is today Demonz Red. Back then there was only one pro shop in Malaysia and choices were limited. Together with Andrew, we formed Werdna Hol Sportz. As time passed by, we parted ways and I went on to form what is Pro Paintball today. Seeing a emerging market in Thailand, I opened a Pro Paintball Thailand as well.

(VPB) You played with Chia Industries. Who are they and what do they do?
(PT) Chia Industries was a rag tag team made up of a couple of Malaysian guys namely Poison Doc (whose surname is Chia and plays for Team Simpsons), Hashidee Murshim (CMX), Rahiza Zahidi (CMX), Ben and Myself (Demonz Red). I had obvious interest in the league in Thailand and these guys decided to have a bit of holiday and paintball. Coming in third was seriously unexpected as we had never played together as a team before. Plus Thai teams put up a really good game.

(VPB) What are the gears you used - from top to bottom.
(PT) We use JT products on the soft goods and VL Loaders, we are also sponsored by Skirmish with Planet Eclipse markers.

(VPB) How do you rate the level of Thai paintball? Since you had the chance to play with alot of them.
(PT) We played in Division 1 in the Thai league but mind you their level of play between division 1 and 2 are pretty close. I maintain a very high level of respect for these guys as unlike us they don't shoot a lot of paint. They play very aggressive and everyone in their teams can basically play any position (no fix back/snake) which makes it difficult to understand and read their games. Team Infernal recently took champion in ISSC here in Malaysia and they only shot 15 boxes!! Demonz Red in comparison coming in 3rd shot 32 boxes!! That I guess pretty much speaks for itself.

(VPB) Something regarding PALS, i know you're involved in PALS Thai as well. How did this came about? Some people out there might not know this yet.
(PT) My involvement with their local league has eventually led us to discussion on hosting an international tournament, which was Pattaya International Paintball Championship last year. Joining up with the prestigious PAL series was a necessity to put in place a infrastructure, format and system which players from all over Asia can enjoy. That eventually led to my involvement as the PAL series working partner representing Thailand.

(PT) I would like to take this opportunity to also market for the Thai National Paintball League, we welcome players from Malaysia to participate. For more inquiries please contact me directly at : patrick.tan@propaintball-shop.com

Thanks Caran!!

(VPB) Thanks Pat.

You can visit Pro Paintball website at http://www.propaintball-shop.com.

Exclusive - Villain talks to Paul Lam

Here's an exclusive interview with Paul Lam regarding about recent development in our paintball industry.

(VPB) Tell us a bit about yourself and what are your roles in PALS and UPBF.
(PL) I am the founder and current Director of the Paintball Asia League Series, or PALS, which also organizes the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit (MPOC), and the World Cup Asia (WCA). We have been strong promoters of the sport in the region since 2004, and plan to continue being so.

I am also the founder of the Asia Pacific Paintball Federation (APPBF), which sits alongside its counterparts in America (APBF), Europe (EPBF), South America (SAPBF), and Africa (AFPBF) under the United Paintball Federation (UPBF), where I am one of the Vice Presidents.

(VPB) What is the relationship between PALS and the Millennium Series
(PL) PALS is an official partner of the Millennium Series Europe. All our events, including the World Cup Asia, are sanctioned and recognized by the Millennium Series Europe. We have a great working partnership and we plan to continue as such in the promotion of sports within the region.

We would also like to add that we have been also working closely with Paintball Sports Promotion (PSP) in the US, which is in line with the goals of the UPBF to unite all paintball federations and tournament series for the proper promotion and growth of the sport worldwide.

We are very proud of this, and hope to maintain these working relationships in the future.

(VPB) Were there any plans to make an Asian version of the Millennium Series?
(PL) There were never any such plans as PALS is already a firm working partner of the Millennium Series Europe; we already share similar goals.

(VPB) Who were involved in the initial discussion regarding this matter?
(PL) I do not know, as I was not involved in any initial discussions regarding this matter.

(VPB) Very recently there's a 'promotion' on the Asian Millennium Series will make its debut in 2011. Sounds like it's a done deal event and WILL go on as schedule. Is this true at all?
(PL) No, this is not true. I have seen the press release and flyers, and attribute this promotion to the vivid imagination of frivolous parties. We have written confirmation from the board of the Millennium Series Europe that there was never any such agreement.

(VPB) The press release at the Millennium Series Asia website has been taken down. What does this means?
(PL) This is because the parties responsible have been using the Millennium Series logo and name without authorization from the board of Millennium Series Europe, and have been requested by the board to remove the website and all references to the Millennium Series Europe.

(VPB) What is PALS position regarding this matter as of now?
(PL) We regard the so-called “Millennium Series Asia” as fictitious and misleading, as it is not sanctioned by the Millennium Series Europe. Even the MPBF, whom they claim to be working closely in the future with, is not aware of any such agreement.

(VPB) Is there anything you would like add regarding this issue?
(PL) Acting without the proper sanction and authority and misusing the name and logo of our established counterparts in other regions can be detrimental to the sport in Malaysia, as it undermines the credibility of the Malaysian paintball industry. We only hope that there is no lasting damage done, and that the parties involved are aware of the consequences of their actions.

(VPB) Thank you Paul for your time.

PALS[HQ] Official Press Release regarding - "MILLENNIUM SERIES ASI

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION
5:00PM 24th MAY 2010

MATTERS REGARDING THE “MILLENNIUM SERIES ASIA”

The Paintball Asia League Series, as partner of the Millennium Series Europe since 2004 when we first started, would like to clarify that the recent press release from the so-called “Millennium Series Asia” is not factual, but based on the vivid imagination of a few individuals.

We have sought clarification with Millennium Series Europe and have been informed that no such agreement exists, and we on our part have not been notified of such a move. To our knowledge, the Millennium Series name and logo has been used without prior authorization and they have been requested to deactivate the website and to remove all references to the Millennium Series Europe by the Millennium board.

The press release by these parties should be deemed misleading, with an agenda that is detrimental to the great growth of paintball now enjoyed in the region. PALS remains a firm partner of the Millennium Series Europe in promotion of sports within the region and will remain so in the future.

We shall be seeking clarification in the proper manner from the parties responsible for the announcement before deciding on the next course of action.

For clarification and more information regarding this matter, you may contact Mr. Laurent Hamet of the Millennium Board at lh@millennium-series.com or board@millennium-series.com
